Veldkleur
The project
By growing organic flowers, we support landscape diversity, closing more cycles and directly benefiting the land we cultivate. In this way, we contribute to the restoration of the land we cultivate and from which we, literally, reap the benefits.
The flowers are grown in various locations, here in Rummen, where we cultivate and create bouquets for CSA members with a flower harvest share and for florists.
At the East Limburg Hospital (ZOL), a therapy picking garden has been in operation since 2020. We plant and maintain it, contributing to the well-being of both patients and visitors, as part of a healing environment project.
In Rummen, we grow and harvest vibrant flowers for people and businesses who make climate- and environmentally conscious choices. By cultivating locally, biodynamically, and seasonally, we, as a team, contribute to this.
Since 2021, Veldkleur has been Demeter-certified. Demeter’s core values are living soil, healthy nutrition, biodiversity, animal welfare, and agriculture for the future. But nature development on the farm and the development of relationships between people and the farm are also key.
Since January 2022, Veldkleur has undergone a transformation with their field. To better cope with heavy rainfall, they have chosen to go off-grid and plant trees. Veldkleur has two Thamworth pigs, which help remove overgrown weeds.

- In April 2016, we began growing flowers at Heerlijckyt van Elsmeren. This historic estate is more than just the centuries-old castle, the oldest mention of which dates back to 1299. Here, we were able to add a wealth of flowers to the 23-hectare park, which adds so much energy.
- In April 2021, we launched the first therapy sessions in the flower garden at Synaps Park. We can now say that the flowers truly make a difference. The organic flower garden is part of the Flower & Forest project and is being realized with a grant from the Agency for Nature and Forests. It was created through a collaboration between ZOL, UCLL, HBO Nursing (which together form LiZa), Wombat daycare center, KPC (Child Psychiatric Center), Kempen and Maasland Regional Landscape, Veldkleur, and the City of Genk.
- Veldkleur has planted a flower meadow at the Ocura residential care center in Montenaken. As with Synaps Park, the flowers are used for therapy purposes.
How are the criteria of the objective met?
Primary production areas
• Use crop rotation/use animals for weed control/no tillage/use green manures/plant willows for baskets on wet areas/hedges and hedgerows;
• Use flowform/Agnihotra/hemp ground cover for planting/copper garden tools/rock dust/off-grid for the entire field.
Possible initiatives in which the project is involved :

Long-term maintenance
There’s a focus on increased biodiversity, corners with “weeds” or hedgerows, which provide habitat for small mammals and beneficial insects, which we need to manage diseases and pests, since we don’t use chemical pesticides. Fertilization standards are also much stricter, and we strive for completely pure, organic fertilizers. A striking aspect of biodynamic agriculture is the use of preparations such as crystal or silica preparation for flowers, which has antifungal properties, strengthens cell walls, and supports heat and light processes in the plant. The cow manure preparation, the only one we make ourselves, supports the soil and its processes.
Furthermore, there is currently one flowform in the field serving as a watering hole for insects and birds, and a second is ready to be installed specifically for circulating collected rainwater and for potential use in the preparation process. The handmade flowforms set the water in a natural motion. This restores the water to its original, healthy inner structure.
We integrate Agnihotra into our daily lives; it is a healing fire from the ancient science of Ayurveda. It is a process of purifying the atmosphere using a specially prepared fire, performed daily at sunrise and sunset. Now more than ever, humanity needs a tool that can help purify the atmosphere, grow pure food uncontaminated by pollutants, and return to a state of balance and harmony with our fellow human beings and Mother Earth. The transformative effects of Agnihotra are documented in numerous scientific studies, personal experiences, and testimonies around the world. It is a healing tool that everyone can use, regardless of race, creed, or religion. Studies have been conducted on its beneficial effects on plant life, human health, atmospheric purification, and in the field of psychotherapy.
We work primarily by hand, using copper garden tools (for which we are also the official distributor in Belgium). The copper particles that wear off with use are very beneficial for plant growth (more so than the iron particles from steel tools).
Benefits
- Veldkleur is a CSA flower grower, which ensures a short and local supply chain.
- Veldkleur manages a therapeutic flower garden at the East Limburg Hospital (ZOL) as a way to care for people in a healing environment.
- Good for human well-being. Flowers bring peace and joy.
- Contributes to a “Breakfast” for wild pollinators. Because organic and biodynamic agriculture do not use pesticides, wild pollinators are not poisoned, unlike in conventional agriculture.
- Improves soil health and fertility, for example, by using copper garden tools.
- Veldkleur offers soil advice for your land, field, or pasture and also distributes lava and paramagnetic basalt and other rock flours or soil additives.
