We are committed to converting residual fruit and vegetable streams into food with a longer shelf life.
Rekub
The project
Rekub makes chocolates, cake and pie from fruit and vegetables that would normally be wasted. All pre-orderable from the webshop. Because we are huge fans of ugly fruit and vegetables. And also of fair chocolate. Combined, this gives a spicy parsnip praline, an easy carrot cake or a voluptuous beetroot brownie. These are just a few examples.
We only work with ugly vegetables. These are crooked cucumbers or carrots with two legs. They are nutritious and funny, yet they are thrown away en masse. Because the vegetables have a spot, are too crooked, too big or too small. This translates into a third of all food production worldwide being wasted. Hallucinatory. We wanted to do something with this and turned something wasted into something tasted again.

Participant(s)

- Rekub’s delicious, honest fruits and vegetables come from Het Herdershof, Bocal, Nieuwe Vaart, Rico Lab and Moesland.
- With Seppe Nobels, vegetable chef par excellence, the chocolates were fine-tuned. (Only in the start-up phase)
- Local entrepreneurs to collaborate (eg. Waste Warriors)
How are the criteria of the objective met?
Surplus food
- Improve the efficiency of resources used in the production stage to avoid waste (e.g. collect all food products regardless of size or appearance, only produce the necessary quantity).
- Stimulate consumption/recovery/redistribution of surplus food for human consumption: use surplus food for human consumption and avoid discarding it or using it as compost.
Possible initiatives in which the project is involved :

Long-term maintenance
Rekub will start renovations in early autumn. We are expanding the concept to include cookies and take away products.
