A regenerative community farm in Veerle-Laakdal.
Organic farm Humus
Das Projekt
The farm Humus covers around 10 hectares where ancient grains and seeds (spelt, wheat, rye, millet, quinoa, lentils) are organically grown on various plots in combination with agroforestry.
The various crops are sown using the SIMTECH direct seeding machine, often in mixed cultivation or in permanent ground cover of dwarf clover or alfalfa.
After harvesting, the grains are naturally dried, sorted, cleaned, hulled and, depending on the crop, ground and bagged.
The focus is on farm composting to produce humus-rich compost to improve soil and food quality.

Wie werden die Kriterien des Ziels erfüllt?
Pflanzliche und tierische Erzeugnisse
- Förderung kurzer und lokaler Liefer- und Produktionsketten mit möglichst wenig Importen.
- Use biodiversity-inclusive production methods: rotation of crops/fruit trees, mixed cropping, agroforestry/ecology, no pesticides or chemicals, organic/rational production, nature-based solutions, …;
- Entwicklung des Geländes unter Einbeziehung der biologischen Vielfalt und Einrichtung eines der biologischen Vielfalt gewidmeten Bereichs (z. B. zusätzliche Blumenbeete, dauerhafte Bepflanzung, Verzicht auf Bodenbearbeitung/Mähen/Bewirtschaftung in bestimmten Bereichen, Insektenhotels);
- Die ökologischen Merkmale des Gebiets zu respektieren und/oder zu verbessern;
- So viel Natürlichkeit wie möglich / so wenig Veränderung der Umgebung (Landschaft, Wasserqualität, Boden) wie möglich;
- Einbindung dieser Praktiken in die Umgebung (z. B. Förderung der ökologischen Kontinuität), um ihre negativen Auswirkungen auf den Boden zu verringern.
Mögliche Initiativen, an denen das Projekt beteiligt ist:
Langfristige Wartung
Minimal soil cultivation and composting on the farm, with the formation of humus-rich compost to improve soil and food quality.
Marc and Bénédicte strive to understand the cycle even better and to work together with nature, because that is where all our solutions lie.
Vorteile
Marc and Bénédicte offer guided tours of their organic farm. They explain the entire cycle, from living soil and the cultivation of grains, pseudo-grains and legumes to their processing. To finish off, they are of course happy to let you taste their products and offer a number of options for this.
Humus offers numerous educational workshops and training courses, including on soil health, agroecology and composting.
Discover the workshops: Baking sourdough bread, Baking pizza, Cooking with roses, Rose pruning and Pruning small and large fruit trees.
Agroforestry zones: for shelter from wind and weather, and to attract biodiversity.
Other projects linked to the objective: "Crops and animal products"
