Privacy policy
The following information concerns the protection of your personal data. This is data that allows you to be identified directly or indirectly, for example, your first name, last name, email address and IP address.
Data is collected when you:
- visit the page https://biodiversity-alliance.be. When a link takes you to another portal, a site, an online application or a social network, you must refer to the conditions for processing personal data of these services;
- contact us;
- complete online surveys that we make available;
- use our tools or enter data into them.
Your personal data is protected in accordance with European Regulation 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (which came into force on 25 May 2018) on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (GDPR);
1) Legal bases and purposes of processing
23 MAY 2001. – Royal Decree establishing the Federal Public Service for Public Health, Food Chain Safety and the Environment. Personal data is collected and processed in order to:
- inform you;
- answer your questions;
- invite you to participate in surveys or events.
Data is also collected and processed anonymously:
- for statistical and qualitative purposes, with a view to improving our services;
- to respond to you in your language.
If your request for information or service falls within the jurisdiction of another administration, we will give you their contact details and you will then be free to choose whether or not to contact them.
2) Processed data
Personal data is collected and processed automatically in the situations listed below.
- You are viewing one or more pages. Personal data collected and processed: IP address.
- You contact us via an electronic form or by e-mail. Personal data collected and processed: name, first name, email address, language preference, company/organization that you enter.
- Email exchanges via the contact form and messaging. Personal data collected and processed: metadata linked or not to your email.
- You complete an online survey or enter data into an online tool. Personal data collected and processed: name, first name, email address, language preference, company/organization, telephone numbers, data that you enter such as your expertise, the services you offer or the actions you describe.
Other personal data that may be processed are included in the data processing register. Data that is not personal is also collected automatically without making a link to your IP address, therefore respecting your anonymity. They are used to establish statistics and to improve the content:
- choice of language;
- search engine used;
- keywords used;
- site through which you arrived;
- pages viewed; duration of consultation per page;
- list of downloaded files;
- date and time of access;
- browser used;
- platform and/or operating system installed on your computer;
- …
3) Use of cookies
Browsing the site https://biodiversity-alliance.be may result in the installation of cookie(s) on your computer. A cookie is a small file that records information relating to a computer’s navigation on a site. The data thus obtained is intended to facilitate subsequent navigation on the site, and is also intended to allow various measurements of attendance. More precisely, three types of cookies can be used:
- Agreed cookies that record the user’s response when asked whether they accept cookies from this site.
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _gat, _gid): they allow the use of the site to be tracked anonymously (the data collected includes the IP address, date and time of access to the service, pages that may have been viewed over a certain period of time, other technical data such as the browser, the operating system installed on your computer, the search engine and the keywords used to find the service site, etc.). This data will only be processed to know the number of users of the different sections of the services and to improve the content of the services. Google is required to comply with the GDPR. - Cookies from other third parties: In order to improve your visit to our website, we also use services from partners specializing in social media, advertising and analysis. For example, we integrate content sharing buttons for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram, as well as the Facebook Pixel service and others (click on the links to consult their privacy policies). These third parties may use cookies to record certain data, or for example to help us analyze the clicks made by visitors. These partners are required to comply with the GDPR.
Refusing to install a cookie may result in the inability to access certain services. The user can however configure his computer as follows, to refuse the installation of cookies:
- In Internet Explorer: tools tab (pictogram in the shape of a cog in the top right) / internet options. Click on Confidentiality, then on Advanced and choose Block all cookies. Validate by clicking Ok.
- In Firefox: click on the menu pictogram (symbolized by three horizontal lines) in the top right of the browser and choose Options. Click on Privacy. Disable cookies.
- In Safari: click on the menu pictogram (symbolized by a cog) in the top right of the browser. Select Settings. Click on Show advanced settings. In the “Confidentiality” section, click on Content settings. In the “Cookies” section, you can block cookies.
- In Chrome: click on the menu pictogram (symbolized by three horizontal lines or three vertical dots) in the top right of the browser. Select Advanced, then Content and then Cookies.
STORAGE PERIOD
The storage period for cookies:
- your IP address is a maximum of 2 years (for more information, you can consult Google’s privacy rules: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245);
- agreed cookies is 100 days;
- Google Analytics cookies is two years;
- cookies from other third parties is a maximum of 2 years;
- exchanges via the contact form and email is 2 years.
In exceptional cases, such as legal proceedings, your personal data may be stored for longer.
4) Storage period
The storage period for:
- your IP address is 12 months;
- cookies is 13 months;
- exchanges via the contact form and email is 5 years.
- data entered in surveys or online tools is 5 years.

5) Security
The FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment guarantees the security (integrity and confidentiality) of your personal data. They are protected in particular against unauthorized access, illegitimate use, loss and unauthorized modifications.
To do this, we use security techniques and procedures that we do not detail on this page for security reasons.
However, please be aware that on the physical, technical and organizational levels, appropriate measures are taken to guarantee a level of security adapted to the risks.
6) Right of access, rectification, opposition and erasure
You have rights regarding the personal data we use: access, rectification, opposition and erasure.
Your request will be processed within 30 calendar days. If it is complex or our services are faced with a large number of requests, this period will be extended by 60 days.
To exercise your rights, send an email or a letter to our data protection officer, accompanied by a copy of your identity document bearing your signature: dpo@health.fgov.be.

7) Complaints
If you consider that the FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment has not processed your personal data in accordance with the regulations in force, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority:
